Ante, the family office representing Giannis Antetokounmpo, acquired the Portrait building in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood for $21 million. The property is a 59-unit apartment building at 948 West Sunnyside Avenue and includes about 6,500 square feet of ground-floor retail.
The mix includes studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. The retail component is 100% leased to a salon and a restaurant and event venue. The seller and developer, Chicago-based Mavrek, completed the property in 2023. Essex Realty Group principals and managing director represented the buyer, while Essex principals represented Mavrek in the sale.
Ante’s purchase follows its January acquisition of the nearby Harmony Apartments, a 56-unit building at 4513 North Clark Street, also for about $21 million.
