Deal Overview

Boston Scientific has closed its acquisition of Valencia Technologies, an incontinence device maker. The buyout gives Boston Scientific control of eCoin, a tibial nerve stimulator designed to regulate communication between the brain and bladder for urge urinary incontinence.

Valencia received premarket approval for eCoin in 2022. In a pivotal trial, eCoin achieved at least a 50% reduction in urinary urge incontinence episodes for 68% of participants. The device is implanted near the ankle and periodically stimulates the tibial nerve.

Boston Scientific plans to compete with Medtronic in the urge urinary incontinence market, leveraging commercial capabilities from its other urology products, including Axonics sacral neuromodulation.
