Atari has acquired Hipster Whale, a technology other business in Melbourne, for $39.3 million. Atari acquisitions bring the Crossy Road creator behind a 340M-download mobile franchise into its portfolio, strengthening Atari’s mobile gaming platform acquisition strategy. Hipster Whale develops voxel-art arcade and runner titles, including Crossy Road and Apple Arcade–connected releases, and Atari expects founder Matt Hall to lead the mobile push. The strategic acquisition is structured as a platform acquisition with $29.3 million upfront ($26 million cash plus $3.3 million in Atari shares) and up to $10 million in a three-year earn-out tied to performance, with deal close expected within days.
