Iridium has completed the acquisition of Aireon, a technology other business in Virginia, for $366.7M. Iridium acquires Aireon to consolidate space-based ADS-B air traffic surveillance and aviation safety data services, including turbulence detection and GPS jamming or spoofing detection. Aireon’s system tracks about 190,000 flights daily across roughly half of global airspace, supporting aviation surveillance and space-based VHF communications agreements through 2035 in North America. The Iridium acquisitions are structured as a platform acquisition and public company acquisition, with 50% of the $366.7M paid at closing and the remainder due one year later.
