Ascension has acquired AmSurg, a ambulatory surgery business in multiple U.S. states, for $3.9 billion. AmSurg operates more than 250 ambulatory surgery centers across 34 states, providing outpatient surgical services such as cataract procedures and colonoscopies. Ascension acquisitions aim to expand outpatient care capacity, with additional surgery centers in markets including Nashville, Tennessee and Panama City, Florida. The healthcare M&A platform acquisition is strategic and pending, with the FTC requiring divestitures of seven AmSurg facilities to address antitrust concerns in overlapping ambulatory surgery markets. Ascension said it expects the AmSurg acquisition to close in the near future after regulatory review and consent-order remedies.
