Announced
HealthcarePlatform

Deal Overview

Olympus has acquired BioProtect, a medical devices business in Israel, for $270 million. Olympus acquisitions expand its urology and oncology portfolio with biodegradable rectal spacer systems used during prostate cancer radiation therapy. BioProtect’s Balloon Spacer creates temporary space between the prostate and surrounding organs, then biodegrades after treatment, with use reported in more than 11,000 procedures since launch in 2023. The platform acquisition is a strategic acquisition by a Tokyo-based medical technology company, expected to close by the end of Q2 2026 subject to customary conditions. BioProtect, founded in 2004 and employing about 130 people, generated about $14.5 million in 2025 revenue.
