Daum Acquired by Upstage | Technology M&A Deal

Upstage has completed the acquisition of Daum, a enterprise software business in South Korea, for US$140 million. Upstage acquires Daum operator AXZ to expand AI-powered search and content services across the Daum internet portal platform. The target provides a large Korean-language archive from news, blogs, and online communities that Upstage can use to improve its Solar large language model for direct AI-generated answers. This strategic acquisition acquisition is a technology M&A transaction by a strategic buyer, with Kakao previously exchanging its AXZ stake for Upstage equity as part of a restructuring.
