LayerX Acquired by Akamai | Technology M&A Deal

Akamai has acquired LayerX, a cybersecurity business in the browser security and AI risk space, for $205 million. LayerX provides real-time visibility and control over user and agentic activity across browsers, applications, and IDEs, with capabilities for shadow AI discovery, gen-AI data loss prevention, and AI tool access controls. The platform also supports traditional browser security functions such as extension management, safe browsing, and secure access, strengthening Akamai’s Zero Trust and application security portfolio. This strategic acquisition is an add on acquisition in technology M&A, with LayerX raising about $45 million prior to the deal and co-founders and employees joining Akamai’s Zero Trust organization. The all-cash cybersecurity acquisition is subject to standard closing conditions, with the LayerX brand expected to be maintained briefly before integration.
