LayerX Acquired by Akamai Technologies | Technology M&A Deal

Akamai Technologies has acquired LayerX, a cybersecurity business in Massachusetts, for US$205 million. LayerX provides browser-based AI usage control and secure enterprise browser (SEB) technology that governs employee interactions with generative AI, SaaS AI, and AI agents across popular web browsers in Cambridge. Akamai Technologies acquisitions aim to extend Zero Trust protection into the browser, improving real-time visibility and control over prompts, file uploads, and web content without forcing users onto proprietary enterprise browsers. The add on acquisition is part of a strategic acquisition strategy to strengthen AI usage control capabilities, with deal terms including a reported US$10 million component and an announced status.
