OpenAI to Acquire Promptfoo for AI Testing

OpenAI announced it will acquire Promptfoo, an AI testing startup that helps developers and security teams evaluate AI applications for vulnerabilities. OpenAI plans to integrate Promptfoo’s technology into OpenAI Frontier, which supports organizations building and managing AI agents for business processes.

Promptfoo was founded by Ian Webster and Michael D Angelo and provides tools for systematic evaluation and red-teaming of large language model applications. The platform targets risks tied to production deployment, including prompt injections, data leaks, jailbreak attacks, and unsafe execution of external tools, and supports automated runs and regression testing.
