What does People Data Labs do?
- Enriches people and companies through REST APIs that charge per match: a 200 response is billed, a 404 is not.
- Returns a likelihood score from 1 to 10 for each person match, and a min_likelihood parameter lets you reject weak matches before they are billed.
- Searches people, companies and job postings with Elasticsearch-style queries, and enriches IP addresses to companies.
- Cleans company, location and school names through Cleaner APIs, and standardises job titles through the Job Title Enrichment API, so search queries match PDL's own schema.
- Delivers bulk data as licence feeds or through Snowflake for Enterprise customers.
- Feeds Clay with company employee trends, job post insights, IP enrichment and personal email lookups.
Where does People Data Labs fit in a GTM engineering stack?
People Data Labs is the raw data layer in a GTM engineering stack: it supplies person, company, workforce-trend and IP data by API for scoring and enrichment, rather than verified work emails.
- 1Website visitor IPs or new CRM accounts arrive in Clay or a warehouse
- 2PDL IP Enrichment and Company Enrichment resolve and describe each company
- 3PDL employee trends and job post insights feed an account score
- 4High-scoring accounts get contacts and emails from Findymail or Prospeo, then sync to Salesforce

PDL bills per match: enrichment calls returning HTTP 200 spend credits; 404s do not. Credit usage and remaining balance are returned in API response headers (x-call-credits-spent, x-totallimit-remaining). Rate limits are per key and per endpoint, in fixed one-minute windows. The company pricing page shows conflicting Pro figures, noted above.
Who is People Data Labs best for?
A good fit if you
- Engineering-led GTM teams building their own enrichment, scoring or product features on an API with documented rate limits and credit headers.
- Firmographic and workforce signals (headcount trends, hiring, executive moves) used in account scoring in Clay or a warehouse.
- Turning website visitor IPs into companies with the IP Enrichment API.
- Teams that need SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 from their data vendor, both stated on PDL's security page.
Look elsewhere if you
- Work email finding as a primary source: PDL's own stats show a 3.4% work email fill rate across its person dataset.
- Non-technical users who want a prospecting app with lists and sequences.
- Testing contact data for free, because email, phone and address fields are obfuscated on the free plan.
- Teams that need a single clear self-serve price: the pricing pages show both 'starting at $98' and '$100 a month' for Pro.
Does People Data Labs integrate with Clay and your CRM?
- Clay
- Native Clay integration. Clay lists a People Data Labs integration with actions including enrich person, enrich company, company detailed employee trends, company job post insights, IP address enrichment, find personal email, employee count by criteria, job posting details and clean job title. PDL's own docs say you can use Clay's managed connection (Clay data credits) or connect your PDL API key (PDL credits, no Clay data credits). Available on all Clay plans. (source)
- Integrations
- PDL documents integrations with Clay, Salesforce (an enrichment app with field mappings) and Make, plus bulk data delivery through Snowflake. Everything else connects through its REST API and SDKs. (source)
- GDPR
- PDL's privacy and security overview says its infrastructure is designed to comply with GDPR and CCPA, that it handles opt-out, portability, correction and deletion requests through web forms, does not sell sensitive data as defined by GDPR Article 9 or CPRA, and refuses biometric and precise location data. Its security page states SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 compliance. (source)
- Data coverage
- PDL's dataset stats page lists 2,466,510,427 person records in its API dataset as of data version 35.2, with fill rates of 3.4% for work email (83.5M), 17.3% for personal email (426.9M), 36.4% for phone (897M) and 31.3% for LinkedIn URL (772.6M). Its privacy overview says data comes from public records, proprietary suppliers who warrant compliance, and attributes PDL infers or models. These are vendor figures. (source)

People Data Labs FAQs
Does People Data Labs charge when no match is found?
No, PDL charges per match. The Person Enrichment API returns HTTP 200 and spends a credit when it finds a person, and returns 404 with no charge when it does not. Setting min_likelihood stops low-confidence matches from returning a billable 200.
Is People Data Labs good for finding work emails?
Not as a primary source. PDL's own dataset stats show work emails on 3.4% of person records, against 17.3% for personal emails and 36.4% for phones. In a waterfall, PDL's company and profile data usually sits alongside a dedicated work-email finder.
Can I use my own PDL API key in Clay?
Yes, PDL's docs describe two options in Clay: the Clay-managed connection, which spends Clay data credits, or your own PDL account, which spends PDL credits and no Clay data credits. Both use one Clay action per enrichment.
How do I check my PDL credit balance from code?
PDL returns credit and rate-limit data in every API response header. x-call-credits-spent shows what the call cost, x-totallimit-remaining shows credits left, and x-ratelimit-remaining shows requests left in the current minute. Once credits hit zero, requests return 402 errors.
What is in the People Data Labs free plan?
The free plan gives up to 100 credits a month for testing the APIs. Email, phone and address fields are obfuscated, premium fields are excluded and support is documentation only. Unlocking contact data requires Pro.
