What does HubSpot do?
- Stores contacts, companies, deals and tickets in one CRM, with two-way email sync for Gmail, Outlook and Microsoft Exchange and activity tracking for each rep.
- Automates sales work with workflows (up to 50 on Starter, 300 on Professional and 1,000 on Enterprise, per the US Sales Hub pricing page) and sequences for outreach and follow-up.
- Adds custom objects, advanced automation, forecasting and deal plans from Professional upward, and sandboxes, field-level permissions and multiple account connections on Enterprise.
- Runs AI features and agents (such as the Prospecting Agent) that draw on monthly HubSpot Credits included with paid plans.
- Exposes CRM data through a public API: private apps get 100 requests per 10 seconds and 250,000 a day on Free and Starter, rising to 190 per 10 seconds and 1,000,000 a day on Enterprise.
Where does HubSpot fit in a GTM engineering stack?
HubSpot is the CRM and system of record in a GTM engineering stack: it stores contacts, companies and deals, and receives the enriched records and outreach activity that Clay and sequencers produce.
- 1Clay imports HubSpot companies or contacts into a table
- 2Clay enriches them with providers such as Prospeo, FullEnrich or Apollo
- 3Clay updates or creates HubSpot records and adds contacts to lists
- 4Sequencers such as lemlist or Smartlead sync replies and activity back to HubSpot

Who is HubSpot best for?
A good fit if you
- Teams that want CRM, marketing email, forms and sales sequences in one vendor rather than stitching separate tools together.
- GTM engineers who need a CRM with a native Clay integration, a large app marketplace and well-documented API limits.
- Small teams starting out: the free plan covers up to 2 users, and Starter covers up to 10 paid users.
Look elsewhere if you
- Teams that need custom objects or advanced workflows on a small budget: both start at Professional, which also requires a one-time onboarding purchase.
- Heavy API users on lower tiers: Free and Starter private apps share a 250,000-request daily limit per account.
- Teams wanting a fully flexible, spreadsheet-like data model from day one; HubSpot's standard objects come first and custom objects are a paid upgrade.
Does HubSpot integrate with Clay and your CRM?
- Clay
- Native Clay integration. HubSpot is in Clay's integrations directory as a Clay-built integration (included in Clay's Growth plan and above). You can import HubSpot objects into a Clay table, look up, create and update objects, retrieve associations and sequence enrollment status, add records to static lists, create associations and find owners. Clay also lists a separate HubSpot Sequencer integration. (source)
- Integrations
- HubSpot App Marketplace with native sync for Gmail, Outlook and Microsoft Exchange; native Clay integration; Make's HubSpot CRM app; n8n's built-in HubSpot node; plus a public REST API with documented rate limits per tier. (source)
- GDPR
- HubSpot's Data Processing Agreement is incorporated into its Customer Terms of Service and covers GDPR and UK GDPR. Transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (HubSpot, Inc. is certified) and Standard Contractual Clauses, with the UK Addendum for UK data. HubSpot runs an EU data centre: new paid customers are assigned a hosting location by IP geolocation at sign-up, existing paid customers can migrate at no charge, and customers using only free tools are placed in the US data centre.
